Mid-Sussex Show

  • Mood:

It is the Mid-Sussex show tomorrow. My first show of this year, and so far three of the pigs I was taking are no longer going. It seem I will be taking along more pets than pure breds. Not to mind it will be be good fun.

Today will see me, bathing, grooming and prepairing all that I will need to take tomorrow.

Wish me luck, I think we will need it.

Lucky Find

Well, talk about a lucky find. Monday a unplanned trip to the pet shop resulted in four more additons to the stud. The plan was to not buty any more cavies unless they were" needed". Boy were these pigs needed. What did I find that was so special.........................????????????.......................TANS. Thats right Tan cavies in a pet shop. So of course all four came home. Two Lilac Tan Sows, one Black Tan Sow and one Black Tan Boar. Along with the two Tans that I alreay have this gives me the chance to run two seperat lines.

Bye Bye

  • Mood:

Today saw 5 cavies going to a new home. 4 Sow and 1 Boar went to a very nice lady. As I have taken on new breeds recently I am finding I need the room to concerntrait on them.

Only 7 more days to my first show of the year, and already two of the pigs I have booked in willnot be going. One a sow who has been in with a boar and has suddenly "expoded" sideways. The second my best Rex boar has had his coat chewed by his cage buddies.

Also this week, we have lost Wonky. This Chocolate Dutch boar was brought by me at a local show, and I had no real idea as to how old he was. He had a wry (twisted) neck and was totally blind. But at least I know now that he is at peace and is pop-corning somewhere over the rainbow bridge.

It's Show Time.

  • Mood:

Well the shows have come around again. I have added to my site a list of the shows that I shall be attendein (in show results).

First to come around is the Mid-Sussex Cavy Club Show on the 5th February, followed by Dorking Cavy Club Show the following weekend on the 12th February.

Choosing pigs to take.......now there is a challenge in itself. Most of the best sow have been paired up so they are out of the question. Most of the best boars are paired with them, and as a result are unusable as t seems many of the sows have taken to chewing the boars coats. Ohh my, this list of avalible pigs is gettig smaller by the minute. I have some younger pigs which I am usure whether to take or not. They are Dutch and all are "on the boarder" of being showable. Oh what the hell I might as well give them a trip out.

Cavy Toxaemia

  • Mood:

Today has been a sad day. This morning I got up to find that Orchid, my Himmi Rex Carrier sow had given birth to five dead babies. She herself was also toxaemic. She was taken to the vets for them to see what they could do, but she passed away during the car journey there.

This promted me to created an artical about it for my site.

So it is with a heavy heart I say goodnight sweet Orchid.

Goodbye Pumpkin

  • Mood:

It is with great saddness that I say goodnight to Pumpkin, who passed away about 7 o'clock last night.
Pumpkin was one of my "free" pigs that I picked up at a local show. He was a little under a year old, and a very handsome Buff Satin Boar.
He had beena little off colour over the passed week, and had shown signs of impaction. He had been brought in so he could be "cleaned out" (which I was having to do every day). When I got him (and all the time I have owned him) he has never been a big pig, to be he could have done with putting on a bit more weight, but he was never skinny. Since having the impaction hr had started to loss weigth as well. Also on this last day he had startde to bunny hop around the cage rather than walk, I do not know if this was due to the impaction or due to the fact that he was a Satin and something else could have been wrong. He had been due to go to the vets tomorrow morning (the earliest appointment I could get).

So goodnight sweet Pumpkin, may your restfull days be full of grass and joyful poppcorning.

Pair Ups

More pair ups for today:

Osiris & Nefi (Self Saffron)

Ping & Sumi ( Slate Tan, Boar crested)

Looking forward to the results of the Tan, these are the only pair that I have. Hope fully I will get some nice babies, and hopefully some sows. Would be nice to put a Tan sow to my Self Black and try to produce some Black tans. Oh well, all I can do is give it as go.

Show Time

  • Mood:

Whooo Hoooooo. At last my copy of Cavies Magazine has arrived and along with it the list of shows  being held this year.

It looks so far that there are betweeb 18-23 shows that I can attend ( but it all depends on lifts and time off).

Now all I have to do is choose this years show team. thats is going to be a hard choice , what with the best sows paired up, the older successful shows pigs and the up and coming newbies. Oh, my choices choices.........................now who do I choose.
